Contra- A great Sophmore album from a great band.
From the second Vampire Weekend released Horchata on their website, I was all over this album. They stay true to their original sound, yet their experience shows with many of the later songs on the track listing, in particular, "Giving up the Gun" and "Diplomat's Son". A great follow up and a must buy if you enjoyed the self titled release.
Horchata: Great way to start off the album. Upbeat and catchy.
White Sky: Really demonstrates some of the new techniques VW has admitted to trying, mainly using "voice" as an instrument.
Holiday: Sounds as though it could have been on the first album. Still a good song, but there are better tracks.
California English: A very unique song. VW's tribute to Californians. Interesting use of Auto-tune mixed with some fast guitar.
Taxi Cab: The album's turning point. A slower song
Run: Fast, catchy song with a great horn section.
Cousins: The lead single, and for good reason. A catchy tune with a good amount of guitar. The "A-Punk" of Contra
Giving Up the Gun: Their second single off of Contra. A great song, evenly paced.
Diplomat's Son: The best song off of the album. Incredibly catchy. This song again, implements VW's use of "voice" as an instrument, even sampling M.I.A. for small portions of this track.
I Think UR a Contra: A slow song to finish the album, picks up near the end.

Great follow-up to one of the greatest albums of our time
Vampire Weekend are an indie band that made their debut in 2008. It was an awesome album. Very great album. They go even harder on their sophomore album, "Contra." let me tell you, this album is extremely great. Maybe even better than the first album. Every song on this album is great. "White Sky," "Cousins," "Horchata," "Diplomat's Son," and "Giving Up the Gun." Every song is great. The album is truly a triumph. These guys definitely deserve to go far, go beyond the indie label XL, which this album and their 2008 self-titled debut album were released on. VW is awesome!!!!!!!

Awesome fun, better than the first
It took me a couple of listens through the entire album to appreciate the changes. But I love it more than their first release which was energetic creative and full of South African cultural references. My favorites are Diplomat's Son, Cousins, Run, Horchata, White Sky...
